For-Profit and Nonprofit Management in Philadelphia Schools
Education Next | Spring 2009

In the Wall Street Journal, Ed Next”s Rick Hess about opposition to the involvement of for-profit firms in education, concluding “students will be well-served if educators, parents and policy makers recognize that public systems, nonprofits and for-profits all have vital roles to play when it comes to providing great schooling for 50 million children.”

A study published in Ed Next in 2009 compared the performance of Philadelphia schools placed under the management of for-profit firms with that of schools managed by nonprofit firms.
