Texas explores the possibility of opening special charter schools for students with disabilities, though nobody is sure if the schools would run afoul of federal laws requiring that children with disabilities be mainstreamed. An article that appeared in the Winter 2004 issue of Ed Next explored the issue of mainstreaming as it relates to students with autism.
