One in 20 U.S. students — 2.3 million in total – today  attend charter schools, an increase of 225,000 students over the 2012-13 school year, according to a new report by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. In New Orleans, 79 percent of students attend charter schools; in Detroit 51 percent of students are in charters, and in Washington, D.C., 43 percent of  students are in charters.
