With the Boston mayoral race wide open, eleven mayoral candidates gathered last night to present their ideas for overhauling the Boston school system in a debate sponsored by the teachers union. The topic of charters dominated the debate. In a new article for Education Next, Jim Peyser described the impressive gains being made by charter school students in Boston and looked at the political factors that today limit the growth of charter schools there. A pro-charter school mayor in Boston might be able to get the charter cap lifted.
