In Washington, D.C, where truancy rates amount to an educational crisis, according to the Schools Chancellor, the city council is putting pressure on the school district to beef up anti-truancy efforts. In a Washington Post op-ed, a D.C. judge complains that efforts by other judges to start an anti-truancy program have been rebuffed by the school district.

June Kronholz’s article on truancy from the Winter 2011 issue of Ed Next looked at the causes of truancy and some innovative approaches to fighting it.
