In a special section on learning in the New York Times, Gina Kolata highlights the work of the Institution of Education Sciences. The IES, part of the U.S. Department of Education, has supported 175 randomized studies aimed at determining what works in education.

Andy Rudalevige wrote about the formation of the IES and about its first director, Grover “Russ” Whitehurst, in the Fall 2009 issue of Ed Next.
