State Standards Rising in Reading but Not in Math

It has been reported that the “passing” mark for some parts of the Texas state proficiency exam was altered after the results came in. However, as the Houston Chronicle’s Rick Casey points out, the proficiency standards were already low to begin with and, citing the recently released EdNext article by Paul Peterson and Carlos Lastra-Anadón, Casey notes that this has been true now for some time.
