A new study by the National Council on Teacher Quality which has been published by U.S. News rates 1200 U.S. ed schools and generally finds them to be an “industry of mediocrity” that produces teachers who are poorly prepared to work in elementary and high-school classrooms. Kate Walsh, president of the NCTQ, writes in the summer issue of Ed Next about why ed schools do such a poor job and what policymakers could do to change things.
