How is the Every Student Succeeds Act different from No Child Left Behind?

Randall Reback and Paul E. Peterson

In this episode of the EdNext podcast, Randall Reback, professor of economics at Barnard College and Columbia University, sits down with Paul E. Peterson to discuss the kinds of changes in state accountability systems we are likely to see under the Every Student Succeeds Act.

No longer will the focus of the accountability system be on those students who are close to basic proficiency.  States can now choose how heavily to weight different indicators  when evaluating schools.  While it is too early to know how states will respond to this new flexibility, states can be expected to pursue different strategies.

The EdNext Podcast is available on iTunesSoundcloudStitcher and here every Wednesday.
