Identify charter schools that have a track record of academic success.

Identify charter schools that do not offer tenure.

Tenure allows bad teachers to be passed around the school district year after year and never fired. If you are a poorly performing teacher, this is the BEST of all worlds for your job security. If you are a student or parent of a student in this bad teacher's classroom, this is the WORST of all worlds.

The teacher's unions support the bad teacher's right to keep their job despite poor performance. Who believes the child's right to a quality education should come first?

Answer: hopefully YOU

Charter schools are public schools. Simple. As. That.

Charter schools follow testing, safety, SPED rules.

People who exaggerate any differences are ignorant or have their own agenda.

This is expected. Many people have lived off these students withou delivering results or being held accountable. Now they see their "meal ticket" walking away to teachers and schools that value them believe in them and willing and able to give them a first class education. Charter Schools: keep doing what you do best and keep educating these neglected kids. The more success you have the better.

I feel that public and charter schools need to be redefined so that these incidences do not continue. I feel with clearer guidelines for both public and charter schools these problems can be eliminated. The problem is that charter and public schools do not currently have to follow the same guidelines. I do not feel that the schools are accurately portrayed in the media and the public is not accurately informed. The reason that charters were started is to give parents a choice in their education. When parents are not accurately informed of the differences between Charter and public schools how can they make this choice?
Collaboration and communication are difficult to attain in an atmosphere of competition. You cannot assess school effectiveness when the schools are not required to follow the same guidelines. Like the old saying...you cannot compare apples and oranges. If we can redefine public schools and implement legislation so both charters and public schools follow the same guidelines. Then, our children will benefit from a system of collaboration and quality instruction. As a result, they will not have to be subjected to the current destructive quarreling and competition.
