In the News: (Another) Open Letter to Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan

Two weeks ago, Education Next published an Open Letter to Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan from Chester E. Finn, Jr. In the letter, Finn advised Zuckerberg and Chan to focus their education philanthropy on innovation outside the system instead of falling prey to the classic temptation of trying to reform school districts.

Yesterday, Marc Tucker of the National Center on Education and the Economy published (Another) Open Letter to Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan arguing against Finn and urging Zuckerberg and Chan to stick with trying to change the way public education works by changing the system.

Tucker advises Zuckerberg and Chan to reform urban school districts based on what can be learned from what city school systems in other parts of the world are doing.  This approach to school reform is challenged by Jay Greene in “Best Practices are the Worst.”
