In the News: Consumer Agency Condemns Abuses in Loan Forgiveness Program

A report released today by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau warns of problems with a federal program that forgives some student loans for people who take public service jobs.

“Confusing rules, bureaucratic tripwires and outright errors are hindering thousands of people as they try to take advantage of the program,” Stacy Cowley reports in the New York Times.

In an article published in Education Next last week, Jason Delisle and Alexander Holt took a close look at the patchwork of programs and contradictory regulations that make it difficult for teachers, among others, to take advantage of loan forgiveness programs.
