What We’re Watching: Endangering Prosperity in Brief

Paul E. Peterson and Eric A. Hanushek explain how the future of the U.S. is seriously endangered by its stagnant school system, an argument that they make in their new book (co-authored by Ludger Woessmann) Endangering Prosperity: A Global View of the American School.

It’s not just average students who are falling behind; while many people assume that our best students are doing just fine compared with students in other countries, that is not the case, Peterson and Hanushek show.

As President Barack Obama explains in an excerpt from a speech which is included in this video”If we want to win the global competition for new jobs and industries, we’ve got to win the global competition to educate our people.”

This video is part one of a two-part video series. Part two explains how things could get better.
