D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee and the Washington Teachers Union are reportedly close to an agreement on a contract. According to Bill Turque of the Washington Post, the contract is expected to include a 20 percent salary increase over five years, a voluntary pay-for-performance plan and increased latitude for Rhee to fire or reassign teachers. In an article that appeared in the Winter 2010 issue of Ed Next, June Kronholz profiled Rhee and examined the issues that have divided the sides in the contract negotiations.
