In his column in today’s New York Times about the strike, Nicholas Kristof complains that the Chicago teachers union seems to be focused on protecting weak performers. He cites a study that looks at the big difference in effectiveness between strong and weak teachers in high-poverty schools and the long-term impact that those teachers have on their students. A reader-friendly version of that study, by Raj Chetty, John Friedman, and Jonah Rockoff, appears in the Summer 2012 issue of Ed Next.
