The government and teachers unions are no longer the only big guns shaping education policy. A new generation of organizations — think Stand for Children, Students First, and Democrats for Education Reform– has emerged to drive the education conversation. Are you having trouble keeping these organizations straight? In this month’s Atlantic, Bellwether’s Rachael Brown presents a short guide to some of the new organizations (with very cool graphics indicating how radical each organization is, how much influence it has, etc.). For a longer look at the new education advocacy organizations, read “Fight Club: Are advocacy organizations changing the politics of education,” by political scientist Pat McGuinn, which appeared in the Summer 2012 issue of Ed Next and “Not Your Mother’s PTA: Advocacy groups raise money, voices, hopes,” by Bruno Manno, which appeared in the Winter 2012 issue.
