A new study funded by the U.S. Department of Education and carried out by RAND and ETS finds that students who used a math program that blends online learning with in-class instruction in algebra made significant gains. The two-year study was a randomized, controlled experiment carried out over two years.
A study published in Ed Next earlier this year looked at the impact of another approach to helping students master algebra. In that study, “double-dose” algebra, in which struggling students are given twice as much instructional time as they would normally receive, was found to have positive and substantial long-term impacts.
