The new teacher evaluation system that was rolled out in New York City this fall means a lot of extra work for principals and assistant principals. As Al Baker explains in the New York Times
A prime accomplishment of the education reform movement, the system — or versions of it — has been adopted in most states. It has been widely embraced, in theory, as an overdue improvement in the way teachers are measured. But it is also reordering the daily and weekly rhythms of the school experience in fundamental ways.
A study published in Education Next by Eric Taylor and John Tyler found that teacher evaluation systems that include high-quality classroom observations can improve the effectiveness of individual teachers.
