The College Board is overhauling the SAT in an effort to increase access to college for disadvantaged students. As Nick Anderson notes in the Washington Post, “College Board officials said they want to make the SAT more accessible, straightforward and grounded in what is taught in high school.”
“It is time for an admissions assessment that makes it clear that the road to success is not last-minute tricks or cramming, but the learning students do over years,” David Coleman, the College Board’s president, said in a speech Wednesday in Austin. The SAT, he said, “will no longer stand apart from . . . daily studies and learning.”
David Coleman has led the College Board since 2012. Before that he was a key figure in the development of the Common Core Standards.
Education Next’s Rick Hess spoke with David Coleman about his move to the College Board not long after the job change was announced.
