Gene Maeroff was an education reporter for the New York Times who later served as founding director of the Hechinger Institute and wrote a number of books about education policy. He died last week in New York at the age of 75. He will be greatly missed in the worlds of education policy and journalism.
While serving as school board president in Edison, New Jersey, Maeroff wrote School Boards in America: A Flawed Exercise in Democracy. He spoke with Ed Next’s Mike Petrilli about the book in an episode of the Ed Next book club podcast which is available here.
