As the teachers strike in Los Angeles drags on, there has been no shortage of media coverage. How fair has it been?
Last fall, Rick Hess and RJ Martin analyzed how the press covered the teacher strikes that took place in six states in 2018.
They found that headlines and leads in major newspapers were impartial, but that articles tended to quote more people on one side of the issue (pro-strike) and that articles often failed to quote families affected by the strike.
