NCATE is launching a committee charged with recommending changes in the ways teachers are prepared, changes that would then be reflected in the council’s accreditation standards. The effort, launched by president James Cibulka, will focus on improving the in-classroom training of teachers and on strengthening connections between school districts and ed schools. An article by Sandra Vergari and Rick Hess that was published in Ed Next in 2002 described how NCATE worked in the pre-Cibulka era.
